Ingredients

  • Halenda's Meats Chicken Drumsticks (as many as you'd like)
  • Your favourite poultry rub or seasoning
  • A sharp knife or kitchen shears
  • Cutting board
  • Paper towels

Instructions

  • Prep the Drumsticks: Pat the drumsticks dry with paper towels. This helps get a crispier skin.
  • Locate the Bone: Place the drumstick on a cutting board with the thicker side facing up. Feel for the bone running down the center.
  • Make the Cut: Using a sharp knife or kitchen shears, cut along one side of the bone lengthwise. Don’t cut all the way through, you just want to open the drumstick like a book.
  • Flatten It Out: Gently press down to flatten the meat slightly. You can remove small pieces of sinew or extra fat if you like.
  • Season: Now that the chicken is butterflied, it’s the perfect canvas for bold flavours. Use your favourite marinade, spice rub, or simply salt and pepper.
  • BBQ Preheat your grill to 400 degrees. Grill each butterflied chicken drumstick till an internal temperature of 165 degrees.
  • Butterflied chicken drumsticks usually take about 15 to 20 minutes on a BBQ preheated to 400°F.
  • Grill skin-side down first for about 6 to 8 minutes, until nicely browned.
Flip and continue grilling for another 7 to 10 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F at the thickest part.
Eat as is, or add BBQ sauce. Enjoy!
