Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Kid-Friendly Flavours – With cheesy filling and pizza dough wrapping, these bite-sized treats taste just like mini calzones!

  • Perfect for Parties – Fun to eat and even more fun to make, they’re a standout addition to your Easter appetizer table or any holiday spread.

  • Make-Ahead Friendly – Prep them earlier in the day and pop them in the oven just before serving.

Ingredients You’ll Need:

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

  • 2 lbs ground pork (Halenda’s Pork is proudly Canadian!)

  • 1 medium onion, diced

  • 2 garlic cloves, minced

  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • 3–4 tablespoons tomato sauce

  • 475g tub of ricotta cheese

  • 2 lbs mini peppers, halved and seeded

  • 2 cans store-bought pizza crust

  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Directions:

  1. Brown the Pork
In a large skillet over medium heat, add olive oil and brown the ground pork. Once the pork is no longer pink, stir in the diced onion, garlic, oregano, salt, pepper, and tomato sauce. Let it cook down until fragrant and fully cooked. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

  2. Make the Filling
Once the meat mixture has cooled a bit, stir in the ricotta cheese until creamy and fully combined. Spoon the mixture into a piping bag (or use a plastic bag with the tip snipped off).

  3. Fill and Wrap the Peppers
Preheat your oven to 375°F. Cut your mini peppers in half and remove the seeds. Pipe the pork and ricotta mixture into each pepper half. Unroll the pizza dough and slice it into thin strips. Wrap each filled pepper with a dough strip, and place on a lined baking sheet.

  4. Brush and Bake
Lightly brush each wrapped pepper with egg wash. Bake in the oven for 16 to 20 minutes or until the dough is golden and crisp.

  5. Serve and Dip!
Serve warm with a side of marinara sauce for dipping. Watch them disappear in minutes!

Tips for Serving

  • These are great for Easter brunches, birthday parties, school events, or any family get-together.

  • Let the kids help with filling and wrapping the peppers—it’s a great way to get them involved in the kitchen!

  • Want to switch it up? Try using ground chicken, turkey, or Halenda’s spicy sausage for a flavour boost.
