Halenda’s takes FIRST place in the Ready to Eat Meat Competition at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair!

Event Information

The Royal Agricultural Winter Fair takes place every November in the City of Toronto. It celebrates the best in agriculture, local food, and equestrian competitions from across the country. The Royal is jam-packed with home-grown fun and the best in local food and animal entertainment.

The Royal is the largest combined indoor agricultural fair and international equestrian competition in the world. It is where Canadian and international breeders, growers and exhibitors are declared champions and where hundreds of thousands of attendees come to learn, compete, shop and have a great time with friends and family.

The Ready-to-Eat Meat Competition

New for 2019, Spotlight on Local presented by Metro is a unique feature that celebrates the very best in local food being grown, produced and manufactured in Ontario. Halenda’s will be participating in the event as a vendor selling product and giving away samples to award-winning meat!

We submitted a few charcuterie favourites to the Grand Competitors competition and we placed, showed and won! We are proud to announce that this year, Halenda’s Meats was declared the champion in the Dried and Cured Sausage competition for our family’s favourite, Spicy Buggy Whips! These spicy buggy whips are exclusively available at our seven location across the GTA.

Why is it named a Buggy Whip? The long tender salami stick mimics that of a whip commonly used with an 18th century horse and buggy. The Buggy Whip is popular European snack. It’s delicious, dried-cured and hearty so it’s the perfect snack or lunch accessory. Kids and parents love the taste. Although our spicy Buggy Whips took the crown, we do have this product available in mild as well for those who prefer a more subtle flavour.

Our Other Products

The Buggy Whip would make the perfect addition to any charcuterie board along side a few of our other products that placed at the competition! To hang next to our first place ribbon, Halenda’s filled the second place slot with our ready-to-eat favourite, Hot Pepperettes! This recipe is the perfect blend of spices and available at our stores in bulk or packaged.

No meat-board would be complete without a more mild but flavourful dried and cured pork sausage. Proudly taking 4th place, our Sremska is a customer favourite. Named after Srem, a region in Serbia where the sausage was born this paprika, garlic and pepper sausage is a treat. Available at our seven locations across the GTA, this sausage is also now proudly sold at select Metro locations.

This year, the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair will be hosting Metro who has recently launched a locally sourced program to promote businesses like us. We will be at the Metro booth sampling a few award-winning products and selling packages of Sremska for you to take home and wow you company with!
